Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island has a new pearl diving expedition and the six-hour program lets you harvest real oysters from pearl bedsin the Arabian Gulf.
Yas Island, Abu Dhabi’s happening entertainment hub has added yet another fancy adventure activity to its kitty. Swimmers and deep sea divers, here’s something that will get your heart rate raising. Yas Island has launched a new pearl diving experience, letting tourists experience true Emirati culture and tradition.
And if you’re lucky you might even find a ransom treasure from deep, down under. The six-hour program is inspired by the Emirati fishermen and pearling families. Adventure seekers board a dhow boat from Yas Marina and sail away to the diving site, one mile away.
On arriving at the site, you are taught the traditional methods of diving and pearling after which you will learn the knack of harvesting real oysters from pearl beds. On your way back, you will also learn the tricks and techniques to open the oysters and find your hidden treasure.
The Pearl Diving expedition is open to all age groups and deep-sea swimmers. You can book your tour every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8:00 am to 1:30 pm.
The expedition is priced at AED 500 per adult, 250 AED per child between the ages of 8-12, and free for children under 8 years old.
