It’s the song everyone loves to hate, with its catchy stuck-in-your-head tune and associated dance moves.
But now – following its runaway viral success – Baby Shark is coming to The Dubai Fountain in Downtown with a choreographed water show.
The song will play every evening at 8pm, and you won’t be able to stop singing it for the rest of the night.
In few words, it tells the story of an extended family of sharks – a baby, mother, father, grandfather and grandmother – with each member of the group introduced with a verse.
But despite the cartoonishly innocuous melody, these aquatic creatures are still the great hunters of the sea and in the course of the song they make the decision to pillage the ocean for some food.
Fortunately the would-be prey seeks escape and eventually finds safety, meaning it’s all a happy ending (including for the sharks who can survive for weeks without food).
Also joining the ever-growing line-up of tunes is I’ll Never Love Again from the soundtrack to Oscar-winning Lady Gaga flick A Star Is Born.
It will be played each night at 9pm by popular demand after a successful run of shows around Valentine’s Day.
The Dubai Fountain itself is about to get a little sister on Palm Jumeirah, which will also feature choreographed shows for the entertainment of residents and tourists.
The Dhs66 million project will be placed at The Pointe, one of Nakheel’s newly developed seafront dining and entertainment hotspots.
Beijing Water Design, one of China’s largest fountain specialists, will be designing the fountain, which will cover 12,000 square metres at the tip of the island.
But it won’t be opening for a little while – so you’ll still find us grooving out to Baby Shark every night at 8pm.
Fountain shows: Sat-Thu, 1pm, 1.30pm, 2pm and every 30 minutes from 6pm-11pm. Fri, 1.30pm, 2pm, 2.30pm and every 30 minutes from 6pm-11pm. The Dubai Fountain, Downtown Dubai.
