Yet again, Dubai is proving to be environmentally aware and residents should be excited about what’s to come.
Dubai Municipality said that it is planning to launch a smart and independent boat, which aims to clear any trash in the city’s waterways, ironically nicknamed the “Waste Shark.”
Dubai Creek, Al Jaddaf Creek, Dubai Water Canal and Business Bay Canal are amongst the few waterways to be cleaned by the autonomous vehicle.
While on the topic of any future plans regarding cleaning operations in Dubai’s water channels, Abdul Majeed Abdul Azeez Al Saifaie, director of the Waste Management Department of the Municipality, said in a press release:
“It is a remote-controlled, autonomous vehicle with dynamic sensors and a smart camera that tracks floating debris and removes them,”
“It is also environmentally friendly as it is electrically operated and does not release any carbon dioxide,” he added.
Almost 1.70 million kgs of waste was collected back in 2017
In 2017, a unit of 50 specialist marine workers and cleaners of water canals, had collected about 1.70 million kgs of waste from Dubai’s waterways.
Wood, plastic bags, food wastes, algae, seaweed, shipwrecks, oil residues and waste from the projects executed on the banks of the waterways, were amongst the waste collected.
