The Ministry of Education on Sunday announced a holiday for all public schools in Dubai and Sharjah to be observed on Monday. Additionally, Tuesday will be observed as a holiday for all schools across all emirates, the ministry said on it’s Twitter handle.

Monday’s holiday may be observed by select private schools as well in coordination with concerned authorities, the ministry said.

Following the ministry’s announcement, Dubai’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority also announced that all private schools in Dubai will be closed on February 5. The KHDA have also advised parents and students to check with their school if it will be closed on Monday, February 4.

Parents in Dubai have received announcements from their children’s respective schools following the announcement. On Sunday, GEMS Education sent an SMS alert to parents which read:

“Following an announcement by the UAE Ministry of Education, GEMS Education schools in Dubai will be closed on Mon 4th & Tues 5th February for the Papal visit.”

The holiday has been announced ahead of the Pope’s visit to the UAE. The leader of the Catholic church is scheduled to arrive in Abu Dhabi on Sunday night at 10pm UAE time.

Last week, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation on Wednesday announced that Tuesday, February 5, will be a holiday for private sector employees holding permits to participate in the Papal Mass.
